The Lord of the Rings: Destiny Reaction

While reading The Lord of the Rings novel I do not think that destiny plays a role. I think that every decision that was made was made upon that person because he wanted to. Aragorn made the decison to leave Rivendell himself, if he really wanted to he could have stayed. He left Rivendell to leave his legacy like his family, even if he had stayed he still could've left some sort of legacy.
I don't think that in todays world destiny really does exist. People make there own decision as to what they want and don't want to do.

Book response #4

Further on in my reading Mia and Simon start to build a more serious relationship.  Corinne throws another party at the beach house when their parents leave and Mia invites Simon. She finally tells her cousin and her friends about how she has been seeing Simon. The only thing that is making Mia worried about the party is that Simon is going to see Stacy and fall in love with her again.
At the party there is a lot of drinking, by the time Simon arrives Mia had already had a glass to drink. She offers Simon a drink and he turns it down replying with how he can’t drink. Stacy walks over to talk to Simon and Mia leaves them alone to talk to each other.  Mia walked down the beach and found Corrine smoking pot and doing ecstasy with her friends. Corrine is a complete mess and doesn’t know what she is doing. Mia tries to help her up and bring her to her house but she yells at her to leave her alone.  As Mia walks back up to find Simon she realizes her parents are back, they make everyone leave and get mad at the girls about all the alcohol. The party got out of hand and then when Corrine walks in high her parents get so mad that they threaten to send her back to the city for help.

Book Response #3

Further into the reading of the Summer of Skinny Dipping, Mia sneak out her window one night to go take a walk on the beach. That’s when she finds Simon, and they talk together again.  They end up taking a walk together and talk about their lives and problems, this turns into a nightly thing. Mia realizes that Simon isn’t an uptight person, and doesn’t like her snobby cousins like her. He isn’t as rich as most of the people who are in the Hamptons, his family is only renting a home for the summer unlike everyone else who own their own beach house there. She learns that the reason why her cousins and all her friends think he’s weird is because last summer hi, and Corinne’s friend Stacy had a secret thing and Stacy cheated on him with his brother. Simon got mad at his brother when he walked in on them and punched him in the face during a party where everyone saw it. Ever since then Stacy denied to everyone ever having a relationship with Simon and that’s why they all call him a creep.
At the end of their walks Simon tries to get Mia to go night swimming with him because he thinks night time is the best time to swim in the ocean. Mia won’t swim with him the first couple of nights, but eventually she does. Then Simon tells her to go skinny dipping because it is even more fun, Mia again won’t do it but eventually does.  Mia thinks she is starting to fall for Simon but she’s worried that the only reason he is talking to her is to be near Stacy again

Book reaction # 2

As I continue to read The Summer of Skinny Dipping I still find it a very interesting novel. In the second part of my reading Mia has realized how much her favorite cousin Corinne has changed. She is very uptight and snotty and only cares about her appearance and money. Mias family isn’t as rich as Corrine’s family so she doesn’t have the expensive clothes like Corinne.
Mia finds it awkward talking to Corrine now because she is so much different than her. Even worst news hits Mia when Corrine tells her that she is having her friend Gen stay with her for the summer too. When Mia meets Gen she is just like Corrine and Mia feels ignored by the two of them. When Gen and Corrine throw a party while their parents are out for the night Mia also realizes her cousin is now smoking, doing drugs, and drinking. This makes Mia not even want to hang out around Corrine and her friends. During the party Mia leaves and walks on the beach where she runs into the boy who lives next door named Simon. Simon seems to be more like Mia and she’s excited to see how close they will get throughout the summer.

Book reaction #1

For my independent reading book I chose to read The Summer of Skinny Dipping by Amanda Howells.  So far I have found this book easy to read and very interesting.   The main character in this novel is Mia. Mia is a teenage girl who lives with her mom, dad, and little sister Eva in Georgia.  Mia and her family are going away for the summer to visit their family in the South Hamptons at their beach house.
Mia is so excited to spend the summer on the beach with her cousin she hasn’t seen in years. On the last day of school before she leaves her boyfriend who she thinks she loves broke up with her. This leaves Mia heartbroken and even more excited to see her cousin to talk to her and help her forget about her brake up. When the family pulls up to the beach house Mia runs out to see Corinne, but Corinne responds very differently. Mia has realized Corinne has changed so much since the last time she saw her and that the perfect summer she thought she was going to have she is now having second thoughts about.

Reaction to "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

For class we read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I thought that it was a very interesting book to read. It was easy to read and I always wanted to keep reading on to find out what was going to happen. I think the fact that the main character, Christopher who had a disibility made it even more interesting to read. I found it interesting reading about all the struggles he went through and how he overcame them even with his disibility.
I also learned a lot about people with disabilites, I learned how they really are smart and people don't really realize that. Christopher was very smart in solving his problems. The setup of how the author wrote this book was also something i enjoyed. He wrote it in Christophers point-of-view so I got to read what it was like in a persons mind with a disibility. The way it was wrote was probably one of my favorite parts of the book, it really made the story.
What kept me wanting to read more was how the main point of the story was Christopher trying to find his mom. The red herrings that came a long the way with the story were also very interesting. Christopher trying to solve the mystery about who killed Wellington left me wanting to learn more about it as I read. Everything Christopher went through to find his mom were all the red herrings in the book.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it is my favorite book that we have read so far in class. I liked reading about Christophers growth with his disibility as the story went on grew. I learned a lot about what people with Asbergers have to go through and how they really are just like everyone else. The ending of the book where Christopher went to find his mom showed all his fears he had to overcome.

Sherlock Holmes Response

After watching the movie Sherlock Holmes in class I realized that there were a lot of similarities between it and the book Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Sherlock Holmes was mentioned many times in this book by Christopher, and I never really understood why. Sherlock Holmes was Christophers favorite investigator and he would always relate things going on in the book to him.
From the book I thought Sherlock Holmes was going to be a old boring movie, but after watching it I thought it was pretty good. I now understand why Christopher related so many things to Sherlock Holmes. Christopher and Sherlock Holmes have many things in common, such as they both were trying to solve mysteries. Sherlock Holmes was trying to figure out how Lord Blackwood came back from the grave and how he was going to stop him. Where as Christopher was trying to find his mom. Both of these stories had many red herrings in them also. The red herring in Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was when Wellington got killed and Christoper was investigating who killed him. The red herring in Sherlock Holmes was the cyanide the girl that was with Sherlock throughout the movie took with her.
